Meeting at Relational Depth: This DVD contains four hours of material
comprising the presentations made by Charles O’Leary, Brian Thorne, Elke Lambers,
John McLeod and Peter Schmid at the 2006 conference to mark the retirement of
Dave Mearns from Strathclyde University. It also contains the Mary Kilborn
Lecture, delivered by Dave, and an interview with him conducted by Lorna Carrick
http://www.davemearns.com/DVD%20leaflet1.pdf The University has waived its right to profits from the conference and the DVD and these will go to support the participation at conferences of people from World Bank B, C or D countries. New Third Edition of Person-Centred Counselling in Action Click this link to see the videoclip of Brian Thorne and Dave Mearns talking about the third edition The third edition of Mearns & Thorne’s Person-Centred Counselling in Action becomes available from the publisher on June 1st 2007 by advance order and following a free orientation event on May 31st in London for directors of training courses. While the second edition was a simple updating, the third is considerably developed. The book expands from 70,000 words to 90,000 and the references are tripled. It contains coverage of the considerable new work by the authors and others over the past eight years. While replacing the first edition with the second was unnecessary, this third edition contains so many developments in theory and practice that courses will want to make the replacement. The book is available in paperback and also in an experimental hardback version that is priced more competitively than most. Orders can be placed with SAGE (UK) http://www.sagepub.co.uk/booksProdDesc.nav?prodId=Book229755 An early task in publishing a new book is to find any typesetting errors so that these can be corrected for the next printing. So, we are setting a Find a Mistake challenge for all readers. The first person to notify this website of a proofing error will receive a prize of £10 ($20).Thus far, the first award has been won by B.T. of Norwich who pointed out that on page 216, line 12, the 'p' of 'psychodynamic' is missing. Also, the same BT from Norwich successfully claims a second £10 by pointing out that in the Preface, on page xv, in line 6 the word 'context' should, in fact, be 'content'. Further winners will be posted on this site. Incidentally, there is a prize still unclaimed from the second edition which we will now re-open. It offers the sum of £100 ($200) to the first person who can give us a line reference to any quotation from Rogers in a book or academic Journal in which he uses the term organismic self. Mearns and Thorne believe that this is a term that is often attributed to Rogers (as we did in our first edition) but that he, in fact, never used it in academic publications. Again, claim the award through this website.
